Raiders help launch Abode Hotels Hot Air Balloon

Abode Raiders launch

Canberra Raiders Press Release 26 May 2015

The Raiders had a special visit from the brand new Abode Hotels hot air balloon this morning at Raiders HQ, getting the first glimpse of what is said to be the largest hot air balloon ever operated in the capital.

Raiders Coach Ricky Stuart, Captain Jarrod Croker and star players Paul Vaughan and Shaun Fensom, had the opportunity to get up close to the new balloon, which is Balloon Aloft’s latest attraction.

The striking black and white Abode Hotels balloon is as tall as an 8-storey building. It holds 9 tonnes of air, can lift 3.5 tonnes, holds 20 passengers and is the biggest hot air balloon ever operated in the ACT, NSW and Victoria by Balloon Aloft, says Managing Director Ewan Roberts of the company.

This morning, Croker, Fensom and Vaughan joined Coach Ricky Stuart, GEOCON and Abode Hotels to formally unveil the balloon.

“Hot air balloons are fast becoming a visual symbol of Canberra with our balloon festivals and as a popular recreational activity,” says Managing Director of GEOCON and Abode Hotels, Nick Georgalis. “The capital doesn’t have a lot of billboard advertising so we thought we’d go sky high another way.”

Raiders Captain Jarrod Croker said it was great to see the balloon drop by to Raiders HQ this morning and encouraged people to check it out.

“It’s a very impressive sight when it’s fully inflated and ready to go,” Croker said. “I’m sure you’ll get a great view of Canberra if you book in for a ride in the new Abode Balloon and it seems like it would be plenty of fun.”

Abode Hotels intends to offer exclusive packages for hotel guests to ride the balloon and see all that Canberra has to offer from up above. Visit for more information.
